If you are considering getting home
improvements done to your house, make sure the Home Improvement
company is bonded and insured. Also make sure you have them
sign a "release of second lien", which means if they get stuff
from Home Depot and charge it to your account, they are liable
for the bills, not you - if they default.
Often times, you will provide these Home
Improvement Contractors with a key code to your monitored home
security system. If this is the case, make sure you change the
code on your home alarm system after the work is completed, so
the contractor cannot come back at a later date and rip you off,
without tripping the home alarm and thus bypassing the call to
the alarm monitoring company.
If you home alarm system is not monitored,
consider purchasing a
monitoring-only contract from Alarm Relay. Many home
improvement contractors can install a home security alarm
system. If you are in an existing home, consider a wireless
alarm solution, but new home can still be wired for home alarm
components.
